Xposed Framework no longer foreign to us. It helps us customize the phone to get what we want and increase the maximum performance of the device. However, Google is about to release the official Android O version in the next few months, the Xposed Framework developers have yet to complete the build for the version on Android Nougat. About a week ago, the developer Xposed Rovo89 provide a Develop update, basically saying there’s still a lot of work to be done. But it looks like we have a temporary solution until that work is done. Developer abforce was working on an ART module, allowing Xposed to work on Android Nougat, but it was deployed while compiling the ROM.
That means even though you don’t need root. But you will need a custom ROM that comes with pre-built Xposed. Normally, Xposed Framework provides users to enjoy custom ROM level of customization on stock ROM. With a temporary solution though, Xposed will just add a custom ROM instead. Sure it’s not an ideal condition but it’s still better than nothing. Why did I mention all that in the past, you don’t necessarily need a custom ROM with built-in Xposed anymore.
Just one day after abforce sharing about their work, PurifyOS Team took abforce’s ART module and made the addition and it was installed on another custom ROM via a flashable zip. There are three versions of Xposed SDK25 for ARM64 (64-bit Android devices), Xposed SDK25 for ARM(32 bit Android devices) and Xposed SDK25 xeighty six (Android devices with Intel chips). PurifyOS team has successfully tested their Xposed Framework on OnePlus 3 running Oxygen OS based on Android 7.1. Since then some users have reported this will be working on their devices.
However, some people experience a device error that makes the device useless and unusable, and the development team continues to work on those issues. Please also note that some Xposed Framework and Greenify modules do not work on this version of Xposed Framework.
As mentioned, this is not an official release and has its own set of constraints. Your device may be bricked or the operating system is unstable. However, any actions taken by you are yours and we are not responsible for your device.
- TWRP Custom Recovery.
- The stock ROM is based on Android Nougat.
- Make sure you have a backup of your data and possibly a NANDroid backup of your current ROM.
How to Install Xposed Framework on Android Nougat
Installation is still quite similar to the operation on Android Marshmallow although quite a few steps have changed slightly according to the Xposed Framework version.
- Download the appropriate zip for your device and transfer it to your device.
- Now boot your Android device into recovery mode.
- Choose Setting and navigate to the Xposed zip you downloaded.
- Select the zip and then swipe to install it.
- Once installed, press the . button Reboot system at the bottom and hopefully your device will boot.
- If your device fails to boot, download Installer Xposed Installer apk and install it.
- When you launch the APK, it will ask you for root permission which you have to grant.
Congratulations on installing Xposed Framework on Android Nougat after all the months of waiting. In case you find some error related to Xposed, saying it’s not working as you expected, you can easily remove it by simply proceeding to zip uninstaller to remove it.
