Instructions to fix Unidentified Network errors on Windows 10

During internet access, Windows users may get the error “Unidentified Network” and cannot access the network. There is currently no official fix for this error. However, the following article will guide you through some of the most effective ways to fix Unidentified Network errors quickly.

Why does Windows 10 show the message Unidentified Network

Unidentified Network errors are usually caused by incorrect IP settings or configuration. At that time, Windows users will not be able to use the internet even though there is still a connection. Here are some of the most effective ways to fix Unidentified Network wired and wireless errors quickly.

Turn off airplane mode

Windows 10 supports the airplane feature (Flight Mode) to disconnect from any network, including the internet. Sometimes users accidentally enable this mode and lead to Unidentified Network error. Then try turning off the airplane mode of the device to see if that fixes the error.

There are two ways to turn off airplane mode as follows:

  • Via Windows 10 Settings: Press the Windows key then select Settings. Then click on Network and Internet then choose Flight Mode, then turn off the mode.
  • The second way is to right click on the icon WIFI on the taskbar. Then turn off Flight Mode to fix the error.

Temporarily disable security software

Sometimes anti-virus software or firewalls can also interfere with the network connection and cause network-related errors on the computer. Although anti-virus software is an extremely important system protection wall, try temporarily disabling the software to see if it is the cause of the Unidentified Network error.

For Windows Firewall, try resetting Windows Firewall settings to default and then check again for errors. Also, turn off the VPN if you’re using it.

Turn off fast startup

Recent versions of Windows 10 have significantly faster startup speeds than their predecessors, thanks to a feature called Fast Startup. However, sometimes this is also a cause of Unidentified Network errors on the computer. Then follow the steps below to turn off the Fast Startup feature on Windows 10:

1. Find Power Options in the Windows search bar and then open the Power Options window. Then click on Choose on the left side of the screen.

2. Then select Change settings that are currently unavailable.

3. Uncheck the box Turn on fast startup. Finally, reboot the system.

3. Then right-click on the current connection (Ethernet or WiFi) and select Properties. The system may ask the user to enter admin credentials.

4. Next, double click on Internet Protocol Version 4.

5. Select Use the following DNS server address then set the address as below:

Preferred DNS server: 8.8.8.8

Alternate DNS server: 8.8.4.4

2. Next, select Network Connections.

3. Right-click the connection in use and select Properties. Then the system may ask you to enter admin login information.
