Install TWRP and root Galaxy S6 G920I and S6 Edge G925I running Marshmallow


Samsung recently started releasing Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update to Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge devices. Wire is a small update that fixes security bugs as well as makes some improvements, so it’s relatively quick to deploy compared to the previous update. The Android 6.0.1 update has been rolled out in the US and European markets. Now, Samsung has started to release an update for Galaxy S6 G920I and Galaxy S6 Edge G925I in South Asia, Australia, New Zealand and South America.

If you have updated Galaxy S6 yours or Galaxy S6 Edge publish Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow latest, you can improve it by rooting and installing custom kernel kernel or doing mods. Not only that but you can now install a custom recovery and root equipment for new discoveries. With the installation of the Stock Kernel kernel from Samsung, it helps bring new features to the device.

Adjust the intensity of the device’s vibration, improved Double Tap to Wake, Gestures (gestures),… are a few things that you can do thanks to the custom kernel. Root access allows you to tweak the system, remove installed system apps and disable the services you don’t like and loads of other things waiting for you.


Root your Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge running Marshmallow and you will encounter the Knox issue. This will also void your warranty.

Before you get started with rooting your Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge, you’ll need a few things.


Custom Kernel

You will need one of the following three cores.

TWRP-based custom recovery

SuperSU – For Root Access

Odin – For Flashing Recovery

Set up your computer

Make sure you have downloaded all the relevant files from above. You will need to download and save the SuperSU file to your phone’s internal storage. Download and save any one of the custom kernels, related recovery files, Odin and Samsung USB drivers to your computer.

Now, before you begin, you will have to set up your computer.

  • Install the Samsung USB driver on your computer.
  • Extract the Odin folder on your desktop or in the Downloads folder.
  • Move Custom kernel and TWRP recovery file to the same folder for easy access

Root Galaxy S6 & Galaxy S6 Edge


Once you have finished setting up your computer, you can begin the rooting process. While this process doesn’t cause data loss in general, it’s a good idea to back up your data just in case.

  1. Root Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge on your device is off, you’re off edge.
  2. Now, you will have to boot your phone into Download mode. To do so, press and hold three buttons at the same time for about 2-3 seconds: Power, Volume Down, and Home.
  3. Now, open Odin and connect your phone to the computer.
  4. In Odin, click Options and uncheck Auto Reboot. Now, click on the AP and select the Arter TWRP recovery file you downloaded above.

Once the recovery installation is complete, you will have to reboot into recovery.

  1. To reboot your phone into TWRP recovery, turn off your phone. Press and hold the power button to turn it off.
  2. Once the phone is turned off, press and hold the three buttons at the same time – Power, Volume Up and Home. This will put you in TWRP mode.
  3. Now click on Backup and select System, data and startup (selected by default) and swipe to start the backup process.
  4. Once the backup is complete, click on the Home/Back button (virtual button in TWRP).
  5. Now click Install and select the SuperSU SystemMode file you downloaded above.
  6. Once the process is complete, click Restart and select System. This will reboot you into Android.
  7. Download and install the SuperSU app from the Google Play Store.
