So without further hassle, let’s get started with the tutorial.

Restore old WhatsApp chats without using Google Drive

Before setting up WhatsApp on your new smartphone, some work needs to be done on your old device. Launch any file browser on your old smartphone and go to Internal Storage. Then navigate to WhatsApp > Database and you will see all chat backups located there. To check the backup date, go through the properties of the individual backup and see its full name. It would be something along the lines of on Spystore-date.db.crypt (e.g. Spystore-2020-02-17.db.crypt)

However, if you notice that the backup is not the latest, then you can create a new one via Setting > Chat > Chat backup > Backup (if you have a good internet connection. Otherwise, proceed with the steps to restore WhatsApp chats using whatever was the last backup stored in the Database folder). To create a new backup, go to WhatsApp > Setting > Chat > Chat backup > Backup.

Now, if both old and new smartphones support MicroSD cards, then copy your chats to the memory card. Another option includes using a USB OTG cable and drive. If nothing works, just transfer the necessary WhatsApp chat to your PC via USB cable and then to your new device. In that case, there is only one fix that you can try to restore old WhatsApp chats. Access Setting > Account and delete the Google Account associated with Drive.

However, doing so will delete messages, contacts and other data from the phone. So make sure everything is properly backed up before you proceed. And once you’re done with the tutorial, you can easily add that account back and all your data will be synced to your device again.
