How to install TWRP Recovery and root on Moto G4 Plus phone


Moto G4 Plus the best released last month in the series Wood Moto. With a better camera cluster, more RAM and a fingerprint scanner, the Moto G4 Plus should be your choice over the Moto G4 if you are looking for a good smartphone in this price segment. Moto G4 Plus running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow latest and give users a great experience similar to Nexus phones. The difference is only shown in the display and Moto Camera with convenient features such as touching the screen to open the camera and flash like flashlight, etc.

The Moto G4 Plus gives users an indescribably great experience with minimal customization, but if you want to take it to the next level, you can root the device and customize it. Here are the steps to root as well as install TWRP for Moto G4 Plus.

Requirements before implementation

  • Moto G4 Plus device with unlocked bootloader.
  • Download TWRP 3.0.2-2 | Links.

Steps to root and install twrp for Moto G4 Plus

  1. First you need to download SuperSU and copy it to your storage Moto G4 Plus.
  2. You have to have Setup ADB and Fastboot on your computer. Then download TWRP 3.0.2-2.img from the link above to your computer then copy them to the folder ADB and fastboot (usually C:/Program Files/Minimal ADB & Fastboot). You can rename the files to “twrp.img” for ease of use in the following steps.
  3. Next you need to boot the device into mode Download Mode. To boot into this mode you need to use the key combination: Power + Volume Down for a few seconds (remember to turn off the phone completely and then press the key combination).
  4. Next, connect your phone to your computer in Download Mode. Now you open the program Minimal ADB & Fastboot on the computer.
  5. You enter the following command and press Enter in the command window
    fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
  6. Load from the link above and extract the zip file on your computer. In the extracted folder you will see a file “ROOT.bat“, run this file. This will install boot customization on your device and help to root your device.
  7. Now reboot your device into TWRP custom recovery mode. To do so, make sure your device is in bootloader mode then select recovery option from the menu. You can use the volume down button to scroll through the options and select Volume Up to select an option.
  8. Once in TWRP recovery, select the Install option and browse for the SuperSU zip file you previously copied to your device. Select the SuperSU zip file and swipe to confirm its installation on the device.
  9. Restart your device.

That’s it, your Moto G4 Plus device has been successfully rooted and moreover has a custom TWRP Recovery on the device. Make sure you use the following checkroot app.
