How to find WiFi password on Android

If you forgot WiFi password, you can recover your password by doing a few steps on your mobile phone. There are two different ways you can find the WiFi password on your Android phone – one is through root, the other is without root.

If you have tried both methods, then you probably know that there is a big problem with rooting. It’s hard It requires a lot of effort. Take time. However, if you are looking for a comprehensive list, you should read the two steps below.

With root

The first method with rooted devices is through a file manager. You need a file manager app for this step. There are file manager apps available for Android devices that you can choose from.

Steps to use File Manager

When using a file manager, the following steps must be performed:

  1. Download a file manager on your phone.
  2. Open the app and go to the “data/misc/wifi” folder.
  3. A prompt will appear asking for access to the data directory. You need to grant access to the folder.
  4. Navigate through the directory. Your WiFi password folder may come with different names, but you will find “WiFi password” as the usual words on the folder.
  5. You will then see a text file named “wpa_supplicant.conf”. Download the text file.
  6. Open the text file in a word processor application. The file will show the following details:

network={ssid=”WiFi Network Name” psk=”password”

key_mgmt=WPA-PSK priority=}

The second step is through the use of a third-party application. You need to find a trusted third-party app for this step.

Steps to use third-party apps

Using a third-party application, you can download and recover WiFi passwords. The most commonly used app for this is the WiFi Password Recovery Pro App. This is a free app, so you shouldn’t worry too much about the cost.

No root needed

You will find that there is another way to retrieve your WiFi password, through a process that does not require root.

Using the ES File Explorer App

Without rooting, you may also find it helpful to go ahead and download ES File Explorer from the Play Store. This app is very powerful and will give you system access to your phone without having to root it.

There are also some very useful features that come with the app but the following steps are necessary for you to recover your password such as:

  • Open the file application.
  • Navigate through the app and select “Local Storage”
  • A drop-down menu will lead you to a function called Devices that helps you navigate to System->WiFi.
  • In the folder of System->WiFi you will find a file named wpa_supplicant.conf.
  • You can open files with a text file viewer and don’t need to download the viewer.

Another option is that you use your router’s IP address and access it through your browser.
