Download SDK Platform Tools Android is now available as a zip file directly from Google. Just download the latest Android SDK platform-tools Zip for Windows, Mac and Linux from below and unzip it. Android SDK and Android Studio are developer-only tools and they are used for Android application development purposes only. However, if you’re just a nerd messing around with your phone for smaller tasks like unlocking the bootloader, installing the boot, or the recovery image or the full factory image, download it from time to time. Full Android SDK or Studio is not required. You can now separately download the latest ADB and Fastboot SDK and ADB Platform Tools zip file.
Platform-Tools is a component of the Android SDK and it includes various tools, such as ADB, fastboot, and systray. If you’ve ever wanted to download ADB and Fastboot without having to download the entire Android Studio or SDK, Google has finally made those binaries available officially for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Therefore, you can now download the latest ADB and Fastboot files from the Google Developer website.
Prior to this new development, users had to download the Android SDK or Studio, which was a 400MB to 1.6GB download and relied on 3rd party sources to get ADB and Fastboot. You must be familiar with the minimal ADB and Fastboot implementation that we need to install to get Platform Tools.
In many cases, 3rd party downloads contain malicious content such as Trojans. Furthermore, to get the latest tools, we have to keep an eye on new releases. Sometimes the latest versions of such executables install outdated ADB and Fastboot binaries. Now is the time to cut out the middlemen and get the latest tools from Google.
Why download a huge package of junk if you only need a small piece? The size of the official SDK Platform-Tools is less than 4MB.
